A number of researchers at the Middle East Technical University in the Turkish capital of Ankara have developed electronic games that help patients eliminate vision impairment problems.
The innovative game called Guzgo (Observer) does not require the use of hands, but is managed by eye movement only.
In an interview with Anatolia, Kurshad Jagletai, a faculty member in the Computer Systems Department at the Middle East Technical University, said the project aims to improve vision for those suffering from relative disabilities in vision.
Jagletai explained that the innovative games provide the eyes with the required exercises by tracking what is going on inside the game and controlling its elements through the movement of the eyes.
“It is well known that eye exercises are done using beads, threads or colored objects, and under the supervision of a specialist, and these traditional methods do not produce positive results often, especially in young people with visual impairment.”
“But innovative games give better results than traditional methods, because the patient has to follow the game sitting in front of the computer screen, moving his eyes in all directions.”
Jagletai stressed that the team that invented the games was able to achieve good results in the pilot phase, which took place with a child with a period.
